Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets began their campaign at the four-nation China International Youth Football Tournament with a 3-2 defeat to Tanzania on Sunday.
The East Africans made a bright start, taking a 2-0 lead into the break thanks to first-half strikes from Issa Chole and Hamisi Chenga.
The Golden Eaglets came out with renewed purpose after the interval and were rewarded with a goal following a sustained spell of attacking pressure.

Tanzania, however, restored their two-goal advantage when Kassim Juma produced a superb finish to make it 3-1.
Nigeria reduced the deficit again a few minutes later, but they were unable to find an equaliser as Tanzania held on for victory.
Uwejamomere Eboboritse’s side will now turn their attention to Wednesday’s clash against Australia as they seek their first win of the tournament.
The competition is a key part of the Golden Eaglets’ preparations for the WAFU B U-17 Championship in September, which also serves as the qualifying tournament for the 2027 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations.

The NFF should henceforth start the camping of our youth teams early for good blending..
The team only assembled a few weeks ago,now they are playing teams that must have had months of training.
Talent alone cannot guarantee victory.
Your are so right.
That’s not the case bro, mediocrity laziness, tribalism and pay and play are main problems. Gusau and Dikko are not fit for those positions, you can’t give what you don’t have.
You are on point…
How did you assemble this call under 17 players. That is the question they need to answer. I hope the nff knows that by the time you kill every aspect of football in Nigeria, the board won’t remian relevant anymore.
Was the invitation thrown open, where did you get these boys from, which academy produce them?
You can’t just gather children of senators, government officials relatives and expect magic.
Go to the street, go to school, go to small locality and fish them out raw.
This wiked people have not learnt anything and yet gather themselves with politician last week and shouting we will adopt Morocco style to develop out football.
Is this how to do it ? Bunch of wiked people.
Thumbs up @Wike. The selection process was worthless.
Bad coaching appointment aside Chelle is destroying our youth teams. For Tanzania to be schooling us then we have no business thinking of Wafu or u17 Afcon qualifications. This is a sad low for a team of world champions.
Chelle indeed
This Tanzania U-17 is the same team that finished second in the just concluded 2026 AFCON U-17. They lost to Senegal in the final.
It was indeed a very wiked, worthless selection.
But the good thing is the Golden Eaglets failure puts the spotlight more on NFF Onigbese. If it helps to cement their exit from office, it is worth it!
