    Ugbani has a good eye for goal and very dangerous at set pieces compared to Etebo. We can watch out for this lad and Olusegun should take it easy because we don’t want more World Cup Ighalos or kayodes in the future, Akinkunmi should calm down he’s the Messi of the team he should wait and watch before making moves else he will be overworked and the end result will be zero. Good overall total football team performance luck was the reason for the low scoreline.

  • Wow, a year full of national team football bonanza: u 21, u 17, u 23 Afcon Afcon, women, wafu women……..

    • Yes, I thought this only today. If the under 23s get past Sudan they will be at the under 23 AFCON as well.
      2019 has indeed been a great year for Nigerian football both in continental competition as well as world competitions.
      Every squad has qualified for every competition they went for. Unlike only two and four years ago.
      It’s indeed a step forward

    As a Nation, Nigeria is well known as football people all around the Planet.
    You name it, Nigeria is there. Boxing o, Kick-boxing o, Nigeria is there.
    FIFA respects Nigeria. The whole World takes note of Nigeria now.

  • I’m satisfied with the win, however the lads need to improve if they want to be relevant in the future.

    This news article did not offer much for those of us who couldn’t watch the match.

    I got more information from the comments (as usual) than from the article itself.

    I expected more goals but the three points is all we need for now.

    Congratulations Nigeria.

        The guy is truly something else.

You even publicly admitted to being a dog for chima. We all know who the true imbecile is. Pls shove yourself into your kernel

    As the group stands now we should avoid defeat against Paa Kwesi Fabins dreaded Ugandan team who just whipped Tanzania because should the Angolans also whip Tanzania in the last game then they will have 6points and plus goal difference. Point here is that three teams can have 6points and other factors such head to and goal difference will be taken into consideration. I don’t like the idea all over the news that Nigeria has qualified when the permutations are still open no wonder Fifa is yet to acknowledge this Nigeria qualification report yet apart from Caf CS and other hurray say African news outlets.

    • Israel 5 years ago

      Thank you my brother, people here, even the journalist who posted the news does not know or realize that Nigeria has not qualified yet, going by the following tiebrakers for the competition copied from wikipedia:

      Tiebreakers

      Teams are ranked according to points (3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, 0 points for a loss), and if tied on points, the following tiebreaking criteria are applied, in the order given, to determine the rankings (Regulations Article 72):[4]

      Points in head-to-head matches among tied teams;
      Goal difference in head-to-head matches among tied teams;
      Goals scored in head-to-head matches among tied teams;
      If more than two teams are tied, and after applying all head-to-head criteria above, a subset of teams are still tied, all head-to-head criteria above are reapplied exclusively to this subset of teams;
      Goal difference in all group matches;
      Goals scored in all group matches;
      Drawing of lots.

    Did Angola beat Uganda 1 zero to nothing in their first match already ?

  • If head to head count before goal difference, then Nigeria has qualified! Simple arithmetic!!!

    • Chima E Samuels 5 years ago

      Head to Head comes after Goal difference please check the rules again and correct me if I’m wrong I will accept thank you.

      • Adisboy 5 years ago

        Chima you are not wrong. You are spot on. This is what baffles me about our so called “journalists”. I can understand us fans getting it wrong but journalists who supposed be professionals in their field also getting basic info wrong is embarrasing. As you said if we lose to Uganda and Angola win next game, we will all be on 6 points then it comes down to goals difference between the 3 teams. Na wa for Naija journos ooo!

    • Adisboy 5 years ago

      Sam what if Uganda beat us and Angola beats Tanzania, which head to head would be used? Is it head to head between Uganda/Nigeria – Uganda, Nigeria/Angola – Nigeria, Uganda/Angola – Angola? So from you logic all 3 have an head to head advantage against each other so who goes through? As Chima pointed out in this scenario it would boil down to goal differences between the 3 teams to decide the top 2

  • Chima E Samuels 5 years ago

    @Edoman and Sam please look at group standing now and matches involving Nigeria Uganda And Angola if they all beat each other as any is possible then head to head or goal difference will count. To play safe let us win or draw our last match because even the Ugandans have same goal difference as us so if they win God forbid they will be top automatically and Should Angola who defeated them and lost by only one goal to us win as well then it favors the latter. I will hope we take that game very serious and win or draw because the coach has a weird record of good football at U17 I’m talking about Paa fabin for black starlets coach who now coaches Uganda.

    • You are right, this scenario might play out but I hope not, I really think it won’t. If Uganda beat us by a two-goal margin and Angola beats Tanzania, Nigeria will not be going to the FIFA U17 World Youth Championship. It means all three teams will finish on six points and would have three points in the head to head tiebreaker mini-league but Nigeria will lose out on goal difference.

      Uganda will be on +1 goal difference if the above happens while a 1-0 win for Angola over Tanzania will see them have a goal difference of 0, while that of Nigeria will be -1.

      That said it looks almost impossible for the above to happen but the Golden Eaglet shouldn’t celebrate yet because anything is possible in football. The idea is to avoid defeat against Uganda and finish as group winners and also qualify for the World Youth Championship. It’s all in their hands

    @Oakfield,It is Dr Drey who goes about insulting people. That was how I encountered him. Until I die I will never forget.
    All I did was to comment about Uzoho’s selection before the World Cup.
    This beast then pounced on me like a rapist in the dark of the night.
    You just got caught up in this.
    It is rather unfortunate as I think under different circumstances, you and Simon will get on just fine.
    Like I said, don’t sink down to Dr Drey’s level.
    He may be educated studies-wise but when it comes to morals, the guy is a stark illiterate.

    • Dr. Drey 5 years ago

      “Like I said, don’t sink down to Dr Drey’s level.”
      You’ve sunk yourself so deep you are almost touching crude oil….with your garbage filled persona. I always and will always have time for kids like you who think they can hide behind their keypads and mudsling all over the place. No man is an island of stubbornness.

  • Ako Amadi 5 years ago

    It nay not happen. But Uganda could beat Nigeria and Angola could beat Tanzania. Would goal diferences not come into play? Why are we saying we have already qualified for the World Cup?

  • Naija have not qualified

  • My comment is simple and clear enough “IF head to head count before goal difference, then Nigeria has qualified! Simple arithmetic!!!”
