Gomez Happy To Bide His Time

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez knows he will have to bide his time in order to get a regular run out for trophy chasing Liverpool.

The 22-year-old got his first start since the UEFA Super Cup back in mid-August when he ran out in the Carabao Cup won over MK Dons on Tuesday night, the Reds face Arsenal in the next round, and he knows he will have to bide his time.

Jurgen Klopp has gone with the centre back pairing of Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk in the Premier League so far this season and, as they are five points clear at the top of the table, he is unlikely to change that anytime soon.

Gomez therefore has to be content with a place on the bench and he says he understands how hard it is to break into the Champions League winners side. “Obviously I have not been playing and obviously every footballer wants to be playing,” the told the club’s website.

“At the same time, I understand that we are the European champions and the lads are doing very well at the minute so all I can do is keep my head down, keep working hard in training and keep waiting for the right time.

“Until then, I have to keep working hard. You cannot sit there and be down. You have to stay positive and do yourself justice when the time comes.

“You need to show the good attitude otherwise you will do yourself harm.”
Next up for Liverpool in their quest to win the Premier League is a trip to newly promoted Sheffiled United on Saturday and punters might want to use their free bet that the Reds will continue their winning ways in South Yorkshire.
