GREAT! How Super Eagles Rated In Friendly Clash Vs Zimbabwe

Completesports.com’s ADEBOYE AMOSU appraises the performance of Super Eagles players in their 0-0 draw against Zimbabwe – an internatonal friendly game at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba….

DANIEL AKPEYI 7/10

Had little or nothing to do in the game. Looked assured in goal and distributed the ball well.

OLA AINA 6/10

Defended wellz but didn’t offer much going forward. He was replaced at half time by Chidozie Awaziem.

KENNETH OMERUO 7/10

Looked solid in the 45 minutes he spent on the pitch. Proved he is ready for a starting berth in the team.

LEON BALOGUN 7/10

The Brighton & Hove Albion defender performed admirably in the game. Stood up to the threat of the Zimbabwe forward Knowledge Musona.

JAMILU COLLINS 7/10

Came close to getting the winner for the Super Eagles when he was put through clean on goal by substitute Ahmed Musa but wasted the chance.

JOHN MIKEL OBI 7/10

Controlled things in the middle of the park and also helped in the defence as well.

OGHENEKARO ETEBO 6/10

Started the game brightly but fizzled out afterwards. He also complemented Mikel’s in the midfield.

ALEX IWOBI 6/10

Gave the ball away a couple of times. He will need to show more consistency to prove he is ready for a big role in the Super Eagles.

SAMUEL CHUKWUEZE 7/10L

ooked lively for most part of the game. Came close to breaking the deadlock in the first half with a fierce shot from outside the box.

SAMUEL KALU 6/10

Didn’t make much impact in the game. He will need to do more in subsequent games to prove he is worthy of a starting berth in the team.

PAUL ONUACHU 6/10
Wasted a good chance to put Nigeria ahead early on in what was a disappointing display.

SUBSTITUTES

CHIDOZIE AWAZIEM 6/10

Came in for Ola Aina after the break and contributed immensely in keeping the Zimbabweans quiet.

AHMED MUSA 6/10

He was lively following his introduction though he couldn’t help his win the game.

WILLIAM TROOST-EKONG 6/10

Proved his call after taking the place of Kenneth Omeruo after the break.

VICTOR OSIMHEN 5/10

Toiled hard after replacing Paul Onuachu but couldn’t come up with the winning goal.

HENRY ONYEKURU 5/10
Showed a glimpse of his talents following his introduction in the place of Samuel Chukwueze.

JOHN OGU
Not Rated as he only has a cameo role after replacing captain John Mikel Obi in the 85th minute

coach rohr still has a lot to do o! we couldn’t s score at least one goal against Zimbabwe? ahhhh
doubt if we will make it out of our group.

    • Adisboy 5 years ago

What rubbish are you saying? Who will stop us from making it out of our Group is it the “mighty” Burundi or the “world class” Madagascar? Did you even watch the match? Did you see the conditions the match was played in? Do you want the players to get injured in a meanless friendly? A bey my friend think well before you post ooo!

      • Oakfield 5 years ago

How can someone be talking nonsense about the match the eagles played yesterday. As a matter of fact, those guys played very well. Was really surprised at the smooth cohesion in the team going by the fact they just came together only a cople of days ago. The zimbabwean team has been together for a very long long and mind u,any country playing Nigeria in Africa thinks they are playing Brazil, hence they’d try everything in their power to give a good account of themselves.@mutum,I think u saw a different match from the one I saw.

    • chidi 5 years ago

ahh oga take it easy these guys played well,if trully u watched d match u won’t say this

    • Ordinary friendly na. Was raining and surface was slippery. Do you want them to overdo it and get injured?

  • Omo9ja 5 years ago

I can’t really say much about this game because I didn’t watch the match. What I’m really concerned about is the final Afcon list.

Oga Rohr, how market? na well done o. I understand say this na friendly match. You done well. I can’t wait for the list. God bless Nigeria!!!

    • Oakfield 5 years ago

How u no go watch am? Bcos they posted a good performance and so u really do not want to give credit to whom credit is due. Continue waiting for the list….

      • Ndubuisi 5 years ago

Don’t mind him I have not seen a hypocrite like him if they had played badly he would have told all that henry nwosu, peter rufia should have been invited.

        • Dr. Drey 5 years ago

Hahahahahaha….Ndubisi…ya head dey dia…! No mind that anumpamu. Whenever the Eagles play well (much to his dissatisfaction), he will come here to lie that he didnt see the game. He has not been watching the Eagles games since last year…that why he comes to spit thrash here all the time about the team and the coach. His Dennerby that he has been glorifying all along is biting the dust at the moment. LOLZ

          • Oakfield 5 years ago

No mind am. That’s how to identify bad belles

    • Ndubuisi 5 years ago

Ihenacho and sheyi dropped over to you.

      • Ndubuisi 5 years ago

        Semi Ajayi

        • Omo9ja 5 years ago

Lolz. I’m still laughing and shaking my for you guys.

So I’m lying abi? That means I watched the match but pretending like I didn’t ba?

Now understand. Your coach is doing fine with those
Average teams before the tournament but when it is matter most he will fall your hands yakata.

I won’t be deceived by coach Rohr and his fans anymore but if you do, you are on your own o. God bless Nigeria!!!

  • I dont .ve d time to see d game but haba.ordinary Zimbabwe. There are tactics to unlock a defending team . Maybe rohr forgot dat. I remember bofereree vs westerhof. Game in lagos den..Olympics qualiers. Westerhof packed full his defence but bofeerre unlocked it . 4 0 was d score den. Because a goal was not scored all dis rating is null and void. There us fire on d mountain. Let think about it. Next time it is better to invite d norway women’s team to play d super eagle in a friendly.

    • Kbaba 5 years ago

Bros if you saw the game, you no go post this. I’m surprised chukwueze didn’t get hurt cus apart from the rainy weather and pitch which could be worked upon, the Zimbabwean’s were kicking and hurting our eagles. It was an entertaining game regardless but the players were playing safe as well. Let’s judge them come opening game.

    • Ndubuisi 5 years ago

You didn’t watch the match according to you why not read comments from those that watched the match. You called Zimbabwe ordinary. Did you watch qualifier they topped their group which include Democratic Republic of Congo. Underrate them in this nations cup and get punished. The condition they played the match yesterday was very bad. Eagles will perform better in a good pitch. Meanwhile they were avoiding injuries. Personally am very satisfied. If we had gone with this present squad to world who knows we would have gotten to quarter final. Super eagles is a strong team with strong bench. Do you know our keeper was never tested despite that Zimbabwe had a good game. So my friend go back and watch replay before critisizing.

    • Dr. Drey 5 years ago

Hahahahaha…some people obviously comment not because that have something to say, but because they have to say something….look at this man comparing Olympics qualifier to a meaningless friendly, comparing a must win qualifier to a kickabout friendly, comparing an U23 game to the senior national team….comparing 1999 to 2019. Pls compare where zimbabwean football was in 1999/2000, not to even talk about their U23s and where our football was (including at U23 level).
Continue remembering Westerhoff and Bonfrere Jo o. u hia…! Lolz

The pitch was horrible and horrendous….

    Looked like sambisa forest.

Pinnick should stop taking our games to Asaba.

    It doesn’t make reasonable sense!

  • Azkad Erubu 5 years ago

At this level of preparation, the scoreline is not as important as the team’s cohesion, understanding and ability to shift from one tactics to another. From my own assessment, this Super Eagles will make is proud in the tournament

    The trophy is ours

  • People might think i have something against pinnick, but come on, must you take the super eagles everytime to your village. What happened to the akwa ibom stadium?

  • Mykel 5 years ago

super eagles matches are no longer interesting to watch because of this asaba stadium, am now regretting supporting panicking for a second term, one day a northerner will win and start taking our matches to sokoto and I can blame them for it. meanwhile the lads gave a good account of themselves

  • Sintali 5 years ago

It was a good game but iwobi needs to improve on his passings if he is to be use as number 10. His distributions were not accurate. Rhor should have bring in Iheanacho at some stage of the game. Another area Rhor should improve is himself. His reading of the game looks poor. Who to change and at what time of the game. This is what he should improve on. Thank you.

  • This Country is definitely Cursed, from the fools that rules the Country to imbeciles that runs the Sport Ministry which Football is just one of the Sports in Nigeria that needs a Re-structure. A Country as big as Nigeria cant boast of good modern pitches to host international Competetions and we expect our teams to Perform, Please Guys if we can’t sort the mess we are in we shall Continue to fall which is actually happening.
We all come in here to talk about sports forgetting that the rogues in Government are the reason/s behind all these mis-fortunes or how else can you describe institutions that has no respect for the Law talkless of upholding it.
A Country where the Government dont give a Sh it about the Citizens and then we expect anything good to Come out of such pathetic Country.
All those Responsible for these atrocities shall Never Know Peace.

It was a nice match, hard to rate the SEs, though, going by the condition of the pitch. But overall, I’m very delighted! The depth in that team is great, the personnel we have on the wings, especially.

I’ve always clamoured for wing play to open up tight defences, and when you have very fast, skillful players like Chukwueze, Onyekuru, Musa, Kalu, and Simeon Moses, then you can go to sleep believing goals will surely come if our centre forwards and midfielders can pick passes and crosses.

Our midfield looks so robust now with the return of Mikel, because already on ground, we have Ogu, Etebo, Ndidi, and Iwobi. The leadership and the push provided yesterday by Obi was superb. Though sometimes, it looked like the hard tackling Zimbabweans would snatch the ball away from him in dangerous positions. But they never really did; our captain was ever tenacious!

In the attack , Osimhen and Onuachu have added a fresh layer of pressure on Iheanacho and Ighalo, so much so that it now
seems Iheanacho wont make it to this AFCON!

In the defence, Balogun remains ever green and of course, Ekong did great too in that match, even with his troubled knee which was provoked in the early minutes of the second half. Awaziem, who replaced Ola, was very strong in tackle, though offered less going forward. But to me, he shouldn’t be dropped.

The form of Omeruo could force Rohr to revert to 3-5-3, because the guy is unplayable at the moment. Then with the form Balogun and Ekong brought to camp, it would be a waste of resources if any of them is dropped to bench in the cause of any match.

Our coach should begin to look at how Kalu and Simeon could be utilized as wing backs in a match where goals are needed with 3-5-3, while Jamilu Collins and Ola Aina should groomed for 4-4-2 system.

For Semi Ajayi, I don’t really see him making the final list. The quality we have in the middle of the pack and even defence is simply enough to take us anywhere. I foresee him being dropped with Iheanacho.

The three keepers for the competition are obvious already, but right now, Uzoho’s confidence is so low. The coach should focus more on Ezenwa and Akpeyi until he sees any reasonable improvement in Francis.

In conclusion, the match was a good test. I love the cohesion, desire, their movement on and off the pitch and the hunger to fight. These are the things friendly matches are meant to test. Again, the quality and variety in the team would allow the coach to have at least three tactical formations even for a single match! It’s that good right now. The ball is Rohr’s court, and this is about the best opportunity he has to prove to us his tactical prowess.

This team is good, very good, better than the WC team. I see them going far in Egypt, but they should pay attention to those “small teams” in their group. Any underated river can definitely make a victim out of any pompous swimmer. Wishing them all the best.

    • Godbless 5 years ago

You really did justice to the team without any atom of sentiment. Most people don’t understand that African football is far different. In 1998, during the build up to the world cup in France, a certain Nigerian defender, Jero Shakpore (pardon me for wrong name/spelling if at all) over stretched himself and got injured after giving Nigerians hope of a world class right back. He missed the world cup. The SE players just need to be cautious and concentrate on getting cohesive and while playing with purpose. I can’t recall any pre AFCON friendly games that we scored many goals, even in 1994 and 2013 when we won

  • Diuto perpe 5 years ago
