Greenwood To Wait For Pay Hike

Mason Greenwood will have to wait for a salary increase despite making his full Manchester United debut in the defeat against Cardiff. The Old Trafford academy striker starlet earned plenty of praise for his own performance last Sunday, which saw him become the youngest player to start a Premier League game for the Red Devils, aged 17 years and 223 days.

It’s understood Greenwood signed his first professional contract last October and United want to keep his feet firmly planted on the ground. The teenager’s debut was in the famous Champions League victory over Paris Saint-Germain and he has picked up first-team bonus money as a result.

United, however, have learnt their lesson after previously handing massive wage hikes to former prospects Federico Macheda and Adnan Januzaj, which ultimately saw them struggle to move them on. Execs at the Manchester giants are comfortable with Greenwood’s present pay, believed to be worth around £50,000-per-year, with a review likely to come when he turns 18 towards the end of this year.
