Guaita Deserves Special Praise

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson has piled the praise on Vicente Guaita’s recent performances for the club.

Guaita was forced to wait until September before making his debut but he has now taken control of the club’s No.1 spot.

The Spaniard has settled into life in south London easily and he has now made 10 Premier League appearances for the Eagles.

He has kept four clean sheets and conceded just six goals since stepping into the side in December and Hodgson believes he should be singled out for special praise.

“At the moment, Vicente has the shirt. He came in when Wayne was injured and played very well, and he’s been able to keep Wayne on the side-lines since that time,” Hodgson told the club’s official website.

“Wayne also had two very good games for us in the FA Cup against Spurs and Doncaster. So we’re still fully aware that he’s available and a very serious competitor for the shirt.

“But only one of them can have it, and Vicente seems to have got his hands on it – it’ll be up to Wayne [Hennessey] to wrestle it from him.”
