Ralph Hasenhuttl says he has been delighted by how open the Southampton squad has been to his methods following his December arrival. The Austrian replaced Mark Hughes at St Mary’s last month and has overseen four victories to lift the team to 15th in the table, three points clear of the relegation places.
Having appeared sluggish under Hughes, Saints have played with far more dynamism and Hasenhuttl appears to have re-energised what was an underperforming squad.

Attitude appeared to be an issue under Hughes’ reign but the new man in the dugout has not found that a problem and has praised the way the players have taken to his way of working. “It’s not surprising because I see these open-minded guys and I know they have the willingness to learn I feel every day,” said the Saints boss. “I am very happy for them that they see with this kind of playing football and hardworking training sessions they get better every day. “It’s fantastic for them and fantastic for me as a manager.”
