Henderson Doubt For Brighton Trip

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is a doubt for Saturday’s trip to Brighton while Joe Gomez, Dejan Lovren and Adam Lallana are out. The Reds have plenty of injuries to contend with as they look to get back to winning ways at the Amex Stadium following recent defeats to Manchester City in the Premier League and Wolves in the FA Cup.
Henderson is nursing a calf problem and may be forced to miss this weekend’s game, with Naby Keita, James Milner and Georginio Wijnaldum all pushing for starting roles in midfield.
Jurgen Klopp’s side, who have a four-point lead at the top, have a shortage of defenders for the clash with the Seagulls as Lovren is struggling with the hamstring strain he suffered at Molineux, while Gomez remains sidelined by a leg fracture.
Joel Matip has also missed the last few weeks with a shoulder injury but is now back in training, although Saturday’s trip to the south coast may come too soon for him.
As a result, Fabinho could again be deployed in an unfamiliar centre-back role alongside Virgil van Dijk, who has recovered from a minor illness to be fit.
Lallana suffered an injury setback before Monday’s cup tie and has also been ruled out.
Klopp says his side’s recent defeat to title rivals City, which reduced their lead at the top to four points, means little and he is just focusing on maintaining Liverpool’s overall impressive form.
He said: “This is our season. It’s really good so far. Now we have to carry on. “Two weeks ago everyone was so excited about the distance between (us and City). Now we have lost two games, not nice but not a real problem.”
