Chris Hughton is only focused on Brighton’s clash with Arsenal on Sunday and is not thinking about relegation rivals Cardiff.
The Seagulls will head into this weekend’s penultimate round of fixtures sitting four points above the relegation zone, although Cardiff could close that gap to just one point if they beat Crystal Palace in South Wales on Saturday, with Brighton not playing until the following day.
However, if Cardiff were to lose, then Brighton’s safety would be guaranteed ahead of Sunday’s match at the Emirates, while a draw would also just about secure their safety, as their goal difference is vastly superior to the Bluebirds’. Hughton insists although he and his players will know the outcome of Cardiff’s match come Sunday, his only focus is on making sure his players are ready for what will be a tough clash with Arsenal. “I certainly can’t you tell what will happen elsewhere,” Hughton told reporters.
“The only thing I can try and affect is our game at Arsenal and, as normal, we will set ourselves up to do the best we can and obviously try to get some type of result. “That’s the only one I can affect or try to affect, the other ones I can’t. We’ll obviously hear any results that have gone in our favour or against us but we can’t afford to think that way, we can only afford to think of our own game.”
