Iborra Joins Villarreal

Villarreal have snapped up midfielder Vicente Iborra from Premier League club Leicester City for an undisclosed fee.

The 30-year-old Spaniard joined Leicester from Sevilla in the summer of 2017 and made 37 appearances for the Foxes, but is now heading back to La Liga.

Iborra has agreed a four-and-half-year contract with Villarreal which ties him to the club until June 2023, and the Yellow Submarines have hailed the capture.

A statement on the Villarreal website read: “Iborra is an experienced midfielder who is dominant in the air. He has quality in front of goal, timing his runs from deep to perfection. “He is a prestigious signing for the Yellow Submarine.”

Iborra found himself on the fringes of Claude Puel’s team this season, starting just three Premier League matches, but did feature in their Carabao Cup ties, scoring in the 4-0 victory over Fleetwood.

Leicester said in a statement: “The football club would like to thank Vicente for his contribution over the past two seasons and wish him and his family the very best in the future.”
