Ighalo Assures Super Eagles Will Advance From AFCON 2019 Group B

Shanghai Shenhua striker, Odion Ighalo says the Super Eagles will qualify from the Group B of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, but adds their opponents won’t be pushovers, reports Completesports.com.

The tournament holds from June 21 to July 19.

The Super Eagles, making a return back to the competition after missing the last two editions have been drawn against Madagascar, Burundi and Guinea in Group B.

“It’s still a tough one, no team is a pushover,” Ighalo told Completesports.com.

“We are going to go through by God’s grace.”

Ighalo who scored his fifth league goal in the Chinese Super League season on Friday also rues his side’s loss to Guangzhou R&F.

Ighalo was on target on 90 minutes from the penalty spot, but just when he thought he had salvaged a draw for Shenhua, hosts Guangzhou grabbed the winner deep into stoppage time also from the penalty spot.

“It was a solid performance away from home but unfortunately, not the result we deserved. Looking forward to the next game.”

Ighalo’s club are eighth on the CSL table with six points from five matches.

  • Since when has advancing from an AFCOB group become something to hppe for?
Why can’t you tell us that you will win the cup to make up for a very poor world cup in Russia?

    • Ikeben 5 years ago

Those that cannot let go of the past never enjoys the present, let alone the future.
Ighalo has long atoned for his world cup under performance. He has even done it in style. Scoring the highest no. Of goals in the qualifiers and beating Salah, Mane, Abumayang in the process is no mean fit. And with this current form, he is set to replicate it again in AFCON proper.

Football is not played with the mouth and only an immature player will go bragging they will win the cup. But any serious team takes every tournament step by step. And the first goal is to come out of the group on top, before they take it one game at a time.

Ride on bros Ighalo, you are on point. May God keep you and the rest of the team from injuries.

  • Please soccer fans Nigeria is about to lose one of our brightest prospect, though the did had been done but pls join me in lending your voice against this evil from repeating in the future like How we lost Alaba to Austria…DETAILS BELOW:

Manu Garba has started again O… he dropped some legit 15 year olds for unverified ones… I’m actually responding to the dropping of our national under 15 captain omidiji one who’s also eligible for Holland and USA and have opted not to honour further calls from Nigeria due to the rational behind his dropping
AND HISTORY IS REPEATING ITSELF AGAIN AS HIS ELDER SISTER SUFFERED SAME FATE 2-3 YEARS AGO…NIGERIA EGUNJE COACHES

Here’s the link to the story

    https://owngoalnigeria.com/2019/04/12/dropped-u17-trainee-omidiji-will-shun-invitation-to-play-for-nigeria-in-the-future-after-failing-to-make-u17-afcon-squad/
I used to honour coach garba but I’m disappointed to say the least
Pls Kenneth Ezaga(Zeegee) and others should dig to the bottom of this and let’s know the truth

    • If his drop for a better player then no qualms. If he decide that on that bases his not playing for Nigeria again, his not a good sportsman then but because his still young, I will look the other way, not being picked now doesn’t mean if he step up and grow up he won’t be picked next time. There is time for everything.
