Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo, has reiterated that the senior national team is in safe hands with the prolific goal scoring form of Victor Osimhen.
Ighalo stated this in an interview with Omasports TV, where he noted that the Napoli striker has the capability of shouldering Nigeria’s goal scoring responsibility.
Speaking about his future with international football, the Al Hilal striker disclosed that Jose Peseiro, who succeeded Austin Eguavoen in May 2022, tried to lure him back to the squad to bring his expertise to the team.
“We have the best Striker absolutely in Africa, if not in the world, we have Victor Osimhen, so why would I stress about National? The national team is in safe hands.
“But you know I’m not going back because now I want to concentrate on my club. The body is not like it used to be, and the young Lads are doing so well, so I wish them well.”
“It’s a dicey I can’t imagine, but I’m a Nigerian I’ll still love to play for my country, but now I don’t think I want to do that, you know, even the new coach that came in messaged me, called me and all that. Said I should make a decision if I want to come back I said I would let him know.”

Few minutes after Ighalo was introduced in the dying minutes of the game, he chested down a golden opportunity for Osimhen who out of inexperience choose to do a bicycle kick. Only if Ighalo had started the match alongside Osimhen – as earlier planned during the 2-day training sessions.
There’s a place for youth and power and a place for experience and guile – especially in a crucial last-leg qualifier. I wish this dude can hang around for at least 2 more years. There’s a reason new coach Paseiro has started dialing him again. He’s seen enough of Dennis and Moffi to know Ighalo should still be in the mix to push them harder.

Ighalo The best striker Nigeria has ever had……. please rest let other younger strikers gather experience so that we can rely on them when the chips are down like that Ghana match……The striking position is well loaded interms of top level strikers who can can give us goals…….If Top clubs like Napoli,Sociadad,Lorient,Atalanta, Northingham forest,can rely on our strikers for goals but SE can not rely on them for goals then something is fundamentally wrong with our national team……..We must make the present strikers work instead of going back to our vomit….. Nigeria is blessed with strikers and wingers more than any other African country at the moment.

The striking position is already loaded with better players like Osi9, Lookman,Moffi, Awo, Balogun, Dessers, Onuachu, Okereke; Success, and the guys in belgoum..

This shouldn’t come up again with arrays of star strikers at our disposal. In fact, I beg Igalo should by now be in position of adviser to those strikers rather than talking about coming back.
