Kelechi Iheanacho says if he eventually make the Super Eagles squad to next year’s AFCON in Cameroon he will surely prove himself.
Iheanacho will be hoping to feature in his debut AFCON when hostilities commence in Cameroon.
The Leicester City star man missed out of the 2019 AFCON held in Egypt where the Eagles finished third.
And Iheanacho in an exclusive chat with Completesports.com, at an event organised by 33 Export Lager Beer last weekend, said:”The AFCON is in January and we still have a lot of work to do. Hopefully we put things together, do our work and if I get to be there I will prove myself and do my best.”
Iheanacho, who was named Premier League Player of the Month award for March, explained why he failed to score in the qualifiers, despite his impressive form for Leicester.

“African football is not the same as European football. I help my team to play well and win. And if I didn’t score in one game I can in the next game.”
He confessed that the Eagles were nervous prior to the game against Benin Republic before news filtered in that they had qualified.
He said:Before the game there was a little bit of pressure because we needed to win or draw to qualify. But when the news came that we had already qualified it made us to be calm and helped us play our game and as you can see we dominated the game.”
On helping Leicester to a first semi-final appearance since 1982, the former Manchester City forward described it as a great feeling.
“It was a great feeling and thank God for that. We are now in the semi-finals and we are going to play in Wembley. It is history so hopefully we will get to the final.”
And on talks about the possibility of him taking over striking role from Jamie Vardy:”I like playing with Jamie, he is a legend in the club, he has done a lot for the club and his country. So for me people should stop saying I have to replace him at this moment because he is playing and still has age on his side.
All I wish him is to be injury-free so that we keep on playing together and do great things together.

ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN IF ANOTHER SEASON COMES.
YOU BETTER KEEP IMPROVING SO THAT D LIKE OF LOOKMAN, MAJA,MOFFI, SIMY NWANKWO,DESSERS WILL NOT DISPLACE YOU.
Smart talk but if you carry on playing this good you shall displace Vardy especially when Rodgers returns to playing one striker to accommodate Madison who is out injured at the moment.
Meanwhile,I trust you to do well at the Afcon. You are a tournament player and I believe you and Osimhen would have more understanding as you play more games together. We may experience the Bebeto and Romario combo of 94 or the Rudi Voller and Jurgen Klinsmann combo of the 1990 world cup those are pairings that really complemented each other and were in deadly form.
