Iheanacho: Nigerian Striker Fast Becoming A Nightmare For Premier League Defenders

January 2021 may be considered as one of Kelechi Iheanacho’s lucky months as it was the starting point to his blistering goal-scoring form for Leicester City after enduring a difficult campaign in the Premier League in 2020.

The Nigerian international, who has now bagged his 9th goal for the Foxes this season despite having the usual goal-scorer, Jamie Vardy on the pitch, appears to have taken his game to a different level. He made this possible when he grabbed the third goal in Leicester City’s 3-0 win over West Brom on Thursday.

The effort also took the Super Eagles striker’s tally to 13 goals in all competitions in 2021, making him the second-highest scorer for a Premier League club after Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane with 15 goals so far since the start of the year.

He also surpassed his previous record of eight goals in a league season which was achieved after 26 matches in the 2015-16 campaign at Manchester City.

No doubt, Iheanacho, who is fondly called ‘senior man’ by his teammates, has suddenly become one of the hottest African strikers in Europe and having been linked with top clubs in Europe such as Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool, RB Leipzig battling for his signature.

The former Golden Eaglets star has shown a high level of confidence in his play and ability to take any goal-scoring opportunities that come his way.

The last couple of months have been a brilliant one for Iheanacho after he was voted the Premier League Player of the Month March and also won Leicester City’s best goal in the month.

He’s gradually displaying some level of consistency and if he continues this way till the end of the season, there is the possibility that he could be nominated for this year’s CAF Footballer of The Year Award.
