Iheanacho Unfazed With Substitute Role At Leicester City

Kelechi Iheanacho is unperturbed by his substitute role at Premier League club Leicester City this season.

The Nigeria international is yet to start a game for the Foxes this season despite scoring 19 goals last term.

Iheanacho has been used off the bench in City’s four Premier League fixtures for a total of 67 minutes of game-time.

“Of course I had a pretty good season at the end of last season, but honestly I am not bothered [about] what’s going on,” Iheanacho told BBC Sport Africa.

“Now we have new players come in and we have a big squad. We need everybody to win trophies and games.”

There is greater depth in attack this season, with the arrival of Zambia’s Patson Daka joining him in pushing club legend Vardy for a place.

“It’s going to be an important season and we have so many games and different competitions as well,” added Iheanacho, 24.

“There are other players on the bench in the same circumstances. I know that everyone will be needed and be important to the squad.

“But whenever I get my chance to play or start, I will just do my job and help the team to succeed. We have a lot of games and everyone will be involved.”

To be honest with u my brother ur game is being affected negatively by sitting on the bench. Practice they say makes perfect. The more u sit on the bench ,the more ur confidence and skill set drops. How can a coach be playing players who aren’t in form ahead of inform players. Even Leicester city fans are not happy with Rodgers is Doing. I advice u to seek a move away from leicester especially now that u are in ur prime

Is like the Coach does not believe in him upon all efforts.
He rely on him as the last resort.
He is too good to be on the bench at this time of his career when nothing is wrong with him.

  • I know kelechi will always get the chance to play and when he does he will perform admirably. But honestly, I believe kelechi has grown beyond just being a backup or substitute in Leicester. He should be starting games just like awoniyi, terem, osimhen etc do for their clubs. This FA cup/Europa league competitions that they keep reserving him for is good but the premiership has more consistent games and he needs to play more regularly to bring out the best in him.
He is clearly in form but Rodgers prefer playing English players ahead of him. I wish a bigger team would just come and take both him and Ndidi out of Leicester so Rodgers can fill their space with English players. Its only when things go south that the coach remembers him. No problem, lets see how the season goes for him.

You better be fazed. Playing second fiddle is never a good omen. Endeavour to be the first and not the last. Or alternatively, just leave.

  • Leave senior man, we saw your impact when Rodger introduce you in the last match against city, Rodger use kelechi and vaddy combo to great effect towards the end of last season, why is he now using Maddison to affect such great understanding between the two of them beat me, Rodger better swallow his pride and play a better and inform player, kelechi is a guy who quarantee goal, guy who just return from his national team duty with 2 goals, return to his team to be bench by player who didn’t even get invited for his national duty. This pure rubbish.
