Serie A giants Inter Milan and Nigeria Football Federation have sent congratulatory messages to former Super Eagles star defender Taribo West on his 47th birthday celebration, Completesports.com reports.
Both football bodies sent their wishes via their verified Twitter handles.
Celebrating Taribo, Inter commented on his unique hairstyle during his playing career.
“There are two types of people in the world: those who envied West’s hair, and those who are lying…Best birthday wishes, Taribo!”
And according to the NFF:”Happy Birthday former @NGSuperEagles defender, Taribo West. Thank you for the memories and have a good one!”
Born in Port Harcourt, Taribo was discovered by Monday Sinclair, who recruited him to play for Sharks.
In 1989 he started playing professionally for Obanta United before returning to Sharks in 1990. He then joined Rangers in 1991 before signing for Julius Berger in 1992.
After his ending his time in the Nigerian league, he netted off to Europeand featured for the likes of Auxerre, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Derby County and Partizan.
He won the French Ligue 1 at Auxerre (1995-1996 season) and helped Inter Milan win the UEFA Cup (now Europa League) in 1998.
He made his Super Eagles debut in 1994, made 42 appearances before retiring from international football in 2005.
During his time with the Eagles he featured at two AFCONs (2000 and 2002) and two FIFA World Cups (1998 and 2002).
Also, he was a key member of the U-23 Eagles, Dream Team, that won the gold medal in the football event at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic games.
