Former Chelsea star Andy Townsend believes Andoni Iraola’s ability to implement a brand of terrific, exciting, back-to-front football will bring out the best from Liverpool players.
The energetic, high-pressing football displayed by Iraola’s Bournemouth has been likened to the intense heavy metal style previously seen under Jürgen Klopp.

In a chat with OLBG, Townsend noted that Iraola’s capability to quickly identify technical players, integrate them seamlessly, and keep a squad performing at a high level without major squad overhauls makes him a great manager.
“I think Iraola, he’s gonna be an outstanding coach, I really do. Unbeaten for half the season is staggering, isn’t it?
“Personally, I think out of the two (Iraola and Xabi Alonso), Iraola has the slight advantage over him because of his Premier League experience. Iraola is a good appointment, a very good appointment.
“I think his Bournemouth team, the way they’ve been playing, have been magnificent to watch. I can’t remember too many of the signings that have come to Bournemouth and have really failed, the way they play is terrific, exciting, back-to-front football.

“They rely on great technical ability, good understanding, and a good spirit.”
Liverpool will embark on a pre-season tour of the United States which will include friendlies against Sunderland (July 25), Wrexham (July 30) and Leeds (August 2).
With Iraola reportedly set to be announced later this week, he should be in charge before the summer window opens, allowing him plenty of time to build a title worthy side for next season.
