Italy’s football federation (FIGC) has formally withdrawn its support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s upcoming re-election bid.
The move aligns fully with UEFA and its president, Aleksander Čeferin, regarding concerns over FIFA’s recent governance choices.

The backlash began after a revealed plan to sell a 20% stake in a $20 billion commercial rights subsidiary to private investors led by Joshua Kushner’s fund.
“This decision is intended to clearly and transparently express the FIGC’s position… regarding the recent initiatives promoted by the FIFA president concerning the governance and development of international competitions,” FIGC wrote in a statement.
“We will continue to work alongside UEFA and the other European federations to promote a vision of football based on merit, solidarity, sustainability and the central role of the fans,” said FIGC head Giovanni Malago.

“We identify with a model of dialogue, listening and shared responsibility which has, to date, enabled football to grow, innovate and, at the same time, defend its founding principles.”
England, Wales, Ireland, Serbia, and Nordic nations have also pulled their support or stated a total loss of confidence in Infantino’s leadership ahead of the nomination deadline.
