Iwobi Flaunts Everton Win Vs West Ham As Turning Point Inspired By Coach

Alex Iwobi says Everton’s enterprising performance against West Ham United in their Premier League clash at the Goodison Park on Saturday stemmed from the manager, Marco Silva’s pep talk to “express yourself and be free”, Completesports.com reports.

The Nigeria international is also certain his side’s 2-0 win can act as a “turning point” in their campaign.

Everton dominated West Ham from the outset and the Blues’ margin of victory could have been higher but for some missed chances.

Marco Silva’s side had 10 shots on target – more than in any game since the Portuguese took charge last summer – and scarcely ceased flurry of attacks at the Hammers’ goal.

Iwobi twice drew smart saves from goalkeeper Roberto, who was busy all afternoon and twice grateful to his woodwork for denying Everton further goals.

The two goals Everton l scored would have matched what Silva envisaged when he urged his side to play with courage, confidence and purpose.

Bernard teased West Ham defender Arthur Masuaku with his silky footwork before slotting beyond Roberto, while the visiting keeper was utterly helpless when substitute Gylfi Sigurdsson rifled into the top corner from 25 yards in stoppage time.

“It was a great team performance and we are all buzzing,” Iwobi told evertontv.

“We needed a turning point and I think today [Saturday] is the day.

“The manager told us after the international break that we had to be confident, to not feel any sort of pressure.

“He said, ‘Just play and express yourselves and be free’.

“We took that into training, and you can see from the players, we were able to do that in the match.”

Everton climbed four places to 14th and within four points of a top-six spot following their weekend success – which curbed a run of four straight Premier League defeats.

Yes ooo Glory, Iwobi has what it takes. Notice the Everton coach played him as an AM, the same role he plays for Naija. And he was very much involved in most of the good attacking moves by Everton. His quick passing does even more damage than any amount of dribbling could. If Iwobi could just be MORE OF A GOAL THREAT, he would be definitely among the world’s best. By goal threat, I mean more GOALS and ASSISTS.

My main man @ Pompei Iwobi has that thing in him that helps an entire team to click. These kinda players only come once in 10 years. Foreigners truly appreciate Iwobi even more than nigerians. Not a surprise cos even the Bible says prophets are never honoured by their own people. Sure, Iwobi struggles with shooting hard n scoring but what he brings to the team, far far outweigh his short comings. Bless @pompei.
