Iwobi Stars As Arsenal Beat Newcastle To Go 3rd In EPL

Alex Iwobi played for 61 minutes before been subbed off for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in Arsenal’s 2-0 home win over Newcastle United, Completesports.com reports.

The game was Iwobi’s 18th start of the season despite going five games without a goal.

Aaron Ramsey and Alexandre Lacazette were on target for Arsenal who made it ten straight home wins for the Gunners, equaling a record set during their best run since a similar sequence from December 1997 to May 1998.

The win also sends Arsenal into third position –  two points ahead of Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United with seven games left to play.

Ramsey thought he had given Arsenal the lead in the 12th minute, but saw his back post tap in ruled out after Sokratis was penalised for a foul on Florian Lejeune.

The Welsh forward scored on the half hour after having an earlier effort ruled out.

And Lacazette eased Arsenal’s nerves with a late second to bump United out of the top four.

Arsenal are next in action with a Premier League away game at Everton on Sunday, before a home match against Napoli in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final match on 11 April.

Newcastle entertain Crystal Palace on 6 April, and then face Leicester away from home on 12 April.By Johnny Edward

The football brain on this boy is something else. Perhaps his best performance this season. Making ridiculous passes all over the pitch……well, it was a good pitch. Not like the eyesore he found himself on last week while playing for Nigeria.

BTW, Lazio are showing great interest in forgotten Nigeria striker Simy Nwankwo. They have reportedly offered him 3 million euros per annum in a 3 year deal, and are hoping to further entice him with the prospect of champion’s league football next season. If Lazio are looking at Simy, I think we should be checking him out too.

I really don,t know why Rohr chose to leave Simy out of his recent squads, because the guy hasn’t really disappointed in the 2 games he has started in the Eagles thus far. His debut against DRC was quite good…his 2nd start against Liberia was even better. For a team that has as many fantastic wingers as we have now, A target man in the mould of simy is a delicious prospect…just the was Alex Mitrovic does his thing at fulham…just put the but in the air anywhere around the 6 yard box and the entire team will be whirling away in celebration within a matter of seconds later. I think Simy and Paul will have to battle it out for that target man position in the lead up to AFCON.

@ Dr Drey,I think Simmy is in the good books of the gaffer but for his descending to lower division.
Having said that,a lift to the elite division will beam the searchlight on the bin pole striker.
Hopefully Lazio makes a success of their bid and with good performances afterwards,Rohr will extend a hand of invitation to Simmy back to the super eagles. In other words,he is very much a part of the team.

Yes oooooo. Simy should be in the team competing with Onuachu, Ighalo and Osimhen. Four hungry center forwards raring to go. Exciting stuff!
