Iwobi: We Showed True Nigerian Spirit Against Cameroon

Alex Iwobi says the Super Eagles exhibited the ‘never say die’ Nigerian spirit in their hard-fought 3-2 AFCON 2019 Second Round win against defending champions, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, Completesports.com reports.

The Arsenal winger netted the winning goal for the Super Eagles in the encounter played at the Alexandria Stadium.

The Super Eagles looked destined to exit the competition after the Indomitable Lions turned the game around with Stephane Bahoken cancelling out Odion Ighalo’s 19th minute and Clinton Njie handing them the lead two minutes before the break.

Gernot Rohr’s side however rallied back to win the game with two second half goals by Ighalo and Iwobi.

“So many people wrote us off after the game against Madagascar, but we told ourselves that we would stand up to the challenge and bounce back, ” Iwobi stated after the game.

“Today against Cameroon, we showed the real Nigerian spirit. We fought hard against a quality side who are the defending champions. They had the game under control at some point , but we kept pushing hard and won at the end of the day.

“We will stay humble and keep working hard. We have little time to celebrate as we have to start preparations for the quarter-finals.”

Don’t mind them my son o Jare. Don’t mind them with their foul smelling mandibles (apologies to chief jegede sokoya – the grandson of idiaraba). Lol.

  • Ohooo! How market naa, Rohr haters, men/women of no faith? Congrats the SE and the positively minded fans.

  • when is the quater final taking place and time pls? make man start strategising how to arrange replacement at work that day, cant miss it, the good old days when u do everything possible to watch the eagles is gradually coming back, but i still think chuckueze deserve to start, probably move simon moses to the left side of attack n bench musa, imagin simon n chuckueze on both flank. Whatever rohl is the coach n he know better, all i need is win.

  • We always reason per match, small mistake like this everyone go turn coach. Thesame people blaming Rohr for calling Iheanacho are thesame people that will blame him for not calling him. Football has gone beyond judging by names. Other countries too no go fold arms for field na, they came to win too. I can only criticise Rohr for not giving Osimhen and onyekuru a chance. Its not fair on their path and it will kill their spirit.

Not every player would play in tournament setting.. We have Just three sub to make, you can’t sub in Sam chuks and oshimen and Henry in one match, a defender might be needed to shield a goal scored..
These are players for the future they are still young..
Congrats to the coach defeating Cameroon as the defending champion wasn’t an easy feat… Wish them luck against sa

Firstly, i will say congrats to every Naija n d Super Eagles. Congrats to coach Rohr. I thought we could have avoided d 1st goal n even d 2nd goal. I felt Omeruo was not properly positioned for d 1st goal. Aina could have done better prior to d 2nd goal. I still praised d team as a whole. I am so happy. Now we can’t rest. Go n kill off bafana. Let them know, this
    is Naija.

@Ubah my brother I wonder oooo since last night I have read practically all comments I have not seen Rohr is a bastard, fool, useless, idiot etc. Seems @iwunze, destiny and their friends has removed it from their vocabulary or may be they’ve not recovered from the shock. This week go sweet oooo, at least for once they will choose their words carefully.
