Jordan Relaxed In Bid For World Cup Spot

Chris Jordan says he has “everything to gain and nothing to lose” in his battle to secure a place in England’s World Cup squad.

The Sussex bowler has been named in a 17-man squad for England’s preliminary matches but not the 15-man World Cup party.

Jordan is in the same situation as county team-mate Jofra Archer and hopes they can both force their way into the World Cup group although he isn’t putting any extra pressure on himself. “A month ago, two months ago, whatever, my name wasn’t involved [with England] in 50-over cricket,” he told The Argus. “I had a few decent Twenty20 performances in the Caribbean and it provoked conversation again. “More than anything, I am just delighted for Jof and to be involved in the same squad as him at the same time.

If I happen to be on the field for his debut as well, that would be an even more special moment. “I’m pleased with the call-up and the hard work starts now.

It’s everything to gain and nothing to lose for me, really. “The 15-man squad has been named already with the usual suspects.

But obviously these games coming up present an opportunity for other people to stake a claim. “My name wasn’t even mentioned not long ago.

Why I should I lump a whole heap of pressure on myself now?”
