Juventus have confirmed captain Giorgio Chiellini will be facing six months on the sidelines after suffering a serious knee injury. The influential defender has undergone an operation after damaging an anterior cruciate ligament and the club report he will not be back until March.
That could be just in time for the Champions League quarter-finals if the recovery goes well and the Bianconeri get that far. “This afternoon (Tuesday), Giorgio Chiellini underwent surgery to reconstruct the anterior cruciate ligament of the right knee,” the club confirmed on their official website. “The intervention, performed at the Hochrum clinic in Innsbruck by Professor Christian Fink in the presence of the Juventus Club Doctor, Dr. Tzouroudis, was perfectly successful. “The expected recovery time is around six months.”
Juve have started the season in fine style, winning their opening Serie A matches but the loss of Chiellini will be a blow to their chances of claiming a ninth straight title.
