Akpeyi Released By Kaizer Chiefs

South African club Kaizer Chiefs have announced Nigeria goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi will leave the club at the end of the month, reports Completesports.com.

Akpeyi joined the Glamour Boys in the middle of the 2018/2019 season from another South African club Chippa United.

“Goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi will also leave the Club, with his contract set to expire on 30 June 2022,” reads a statement on the club’s official website.

“The Nigerian international signed mid-season from Chippa United in 2018/19 and featured 69 times in 3.5 years for Amakhosi. Farewell and good luck.”

The 35-year-old’s departure might come as a shock as Chiefs’ goalkeeping department was regarded as strong with Bruce Bvuma, Brandon Petersen and Itumeleng Khune offering competition.

Akpeyi will now look to secure a move elsewhere after his release by Kaizer Chiefs.

He is a very dedicated guy. But now, age is not on his side. Hope he has prepared for the future that could be very challenging when looking at the future at 35 in this industry.
