Kanu: Super Eagles Must Up Their Game To Beat Cameroon

Former Super Eagles captain Nwankwo Kanu believes the team have what it takes to beat Cameroon in Saturday’s Round of 16 encounter at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, but warns that players must up their game to stop the Indomitable Lions, reports Completesports.com.

Both teams finished second in their respective groups to set up the tantalising second round fixture which will kick-off at 5pm Nigerian time.

The Super Eagles packed with talented individuals are yet to fulfil their potentials in the competition, scrapping past the Swallows of Burundi and Syli Nationale of Guinea before succumbing to a shocking 2-0 loss in their final Group B match against the Barea of Madagascar.

The clash against the Indomitable Lions will be a further test to their ability to win against a fourth AFCON title and Kanu has charged the players to go all out for a win.

“The game against Cameroon is not going to be easy we must understand that. They are the defending champions and are a good team, ” Kanu told Completesports.com at the Super Eagles’ Palestine Hotel in Alexandria.

“I strongly believe we can beat them, but we have to really up our game. The players are working hard in training and they have moved on from the defeat against Madagascar.

“We are now at a crucial stage of the competition where you can’t afford to make too many mistakes. Any mistakes now will certainly be punished.

“I’m a Nigerian and I believe we will come out victorious at the end of the day.”

If I m asked, I LL advice, that we play a 4.3.3 formation, with Ndidi,Etebo, iwobi in d midfield. Then Ighalo, Osimene n Chukweze in d attack. Ndidi should do a very disciplined ultra defensive duties to be the first defender to spoil opposition attacking threat, while Etebo play as a box to box supporting Ndidi n Iwobi in d attacking midfield position. Ighalo must have to play behind Osimene who to me is our only real n natural point man. Ighalo is a very dangerous player playing behind a point man whereby he is able to attack from d centre of d pitch n in doing this, he will be adding numbers in our attacking midfield position. Chukweze is just to cause all sorts of problems for d opposition. Musa can come in with his pace in d second half or Henry with his penetration or Kalu with his trickery n penetration too. Just my personal opinion but Rohr is d manager n knows best n his choice has to be respected n supported.

As long as super Eagles fails to strike shots from range they will continue to struggle…
Rohr’s patter is whack,Even keshi team was not as strong as good as this did well at 2013

Bring on Onyekuru and osimhen, this guys are young and hard working they did very well last season why drop them ahead of players who are not ready to step up?
Iwobi is not getting it right at all,for me play etebo in offensive role just like 2018 wc..
We are lacking creativity,Start Chukweze he can open up any defense line and draw 3 to 4 players out at once, tag him with osimhen and you will get a positive results..
I am not a coach but if I handle this present super Eagles team..
    Haha I will go far

What guarantees do you have that the ones you mentioned will be at their best…? 18 out of 21 available players have been given a run out so far….what will the remaining 2 do if the rest refuse to play their best or lift up their games…?
The whole team needs to list up their games and give 120%. No complacency, no laxity. That is the best way to improve. 2 in-form players playing with 9 lapse team mates will not make any difference.

  • pls, Oga Rohr start chukwueze for us.
