Keep Your Head Cool – Akpoborie Tells Maja After Brace Against Everton

Former Super Eagles striker, Jonathan Akpoborie has urged Fulham forward, Josh Maja not to be carried away with the excitement that he netted a brace in his Premier League debut against Everton.

The Nigerian international opened his goals account on Sunday when he slid in to turn home Ola Aina’s cross from close range to score the opening goal before tapping in after Reed’s shot had hit the woodwork for his second goal.

Reacting to Maja’s superlative performance against Everton, Akpoborie in a chat with Completesports, stated that Maja should keep his head cool and take each game as they come.

“It is too early for us to be singing the praises of Josh Maja after scoring a brace against Everton in the Premier League. No doubt, his performance deserved great commendation considering the fact that it was his debut game.

“At this point, Maja should not allow Sunday’s game to get into his head because there are many matches to be played and he must ensure that he maintains his goa-scoring form.

“Maja’s performance will also be good news to the Super Eagles ahead of the team’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin and Lesotho respectively. I just hope he will continue with his good form.”

Nigeria is spoilt for choicein the strikers department and even the defence and to some extent the goalkeepers department. Whr The SE needs to declare a state of emergency is the midfield department. For now its only Ndidi is reliable. The rest are struggling. I think the NFF have to set up a top class scorting team to search for world-class midfielders home and abroad others efforts of other departments will be futile

The truth is the midfielders currently in the team are the best the country has.
I doubt the NFF scouts will discover ones better than what we have already, because quality that good don’t stay in the hide,at least not for long.
Goldfish they say has no hiding place.
But we can manage the ones we have at the moment, putting them to good use.The likes of Ndidi,Etebo,Aribo,Abdullahi,Aubuike Okechukwu,Iwobi,Ejaria are good to go!

  • Hmmm I agree that the current midfielders we have in the Super Eagles are the best the team has to offer. I hope players like Ejaria will soon join them, my concern is we only have ndidi as a recognized DM, if he gets injured then Nigeria will experience what Leicester also experiences when he gets injured. We need an ideal backup for ndidi. There was a time when the Super Eagles had a lot of DM but for some reason they are no where to be found now.
The coach needs to do alot to make sure that our midfield is solid and can stand any team in the world.

  • Of a truth eeeh….Maja has poor work rate. I am not convinced at all, yes he got two goals, but that guy is poor on the ball. Wish Osimhen was in that Fulham team where everyone is playing to feed the top 9, unlike in Napoli where our darling son almost would beg for a pass from teammates , I hate Napoli
