King Close To Scotland Loan Move

Leicester City have opened the door for midfielder Andy King to join Glasgow giants Rangers on a season-long loan deal.

The Foxes midfielder has been given the green light by former Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers to travel north to join Steven Gerrard’s squad after it became clear he would struggle for action at the King Power Stadium this season.

Rodgers has made a number of new signings this summer, including midfielder Dennis Praet from Sampdoria, bolstering his ranks further and pushing King further down the pecking order, so a move has been on the cards for a while.

King made 29 appearances for Leicester the year they stunned the world by winning the Premier League title, but his amount of game time has dwindled since then and it looks to be a move that will suit all parties if, as expected, it goes through.

News of the 50-cap Wales international’s imminent move north comes after Gers boss Steven Gerrard admitted he was considering bringing in another central midfielder to compete with the five-strong group he has at his disposal currently as they prepare to battle on four fronts.

Steven Davis, Ryan Jack and Joe Aribo have emerged as the Light Blues boss’ favoured trio in the middle of the park, with Glen Kamara and Greg Docherty providing back up.

Speaking on Wednesday Gerrard said: “I am debating whether we need one more (central midfielder) as I like two players in each position but at the moment I’m satisfied with the five I’ve got.”

He soon changed his mind and has now moved to bring in King, who could go on to play a key role for the Gers this season. It is exciting times at Ibrox under the leadership of Gerrard as the Light Blues attempt to put an end to Celtic’s period of dominance north of the border.

The deal will not go down at all well with the Celtic fans, who are still furious with Rodgers’ decision to jump ship and head to Leicester last season.

He has now arguably helped out their arch rivals by loaning them King, not that it will bother Rodgers or Leicester, who have the player’s best interests at heart.

Whether the deal will be done in time for him to figure in tonight’s Europa League clash with Midtjylland, remains to be seen, but King can certainly look forward to playing in front of a packed Ibrox this season.
