Klopp: FIFA Must Reschedule Club World Cup To Avoid Fixture Chaos

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has told FIFA to reschedule the Club World Cup if they want it to be taken seriously.

Klopp admitted his opinion may go down badly with world football’s governing body but says putting the tournament midway through the season has caused fixture chaos and will stop European teams viewing it as a top priority.

FIFA are expanding the tournament and moving it until the end of the season from 2021 but Klopp says just bolting it on to an already congested campaign will not work either.

Klopp who has brought a full squad to the Middle East for Wednesday’s semi final with Monterrey with the kids playing in the Carabao Cup, said: “If you asked me if there should be a Club World Cup in the middle of our season, I would say no.

“I speak constantly about this kind of competition. We are here so, for us, it is the most important competition in the world. But can it be bigger? I don’t know,”Klopp told reporters.

“From the organisation points of view they have to get around the table and talk, because otherwise FIFA say we’ll have a tournament, and UEFA say so will we, and then South America too.

“And they all think their tournament is most important. So it’s not so easy. In the summer, yes, it is nice. But you cannot then have all the other tournaments. You cannot just add on tournaments. They won’t like this but it is my opinion and I think all day about football.”
