Kovac Hits Out At Bayern Mentality

Bayern Munich boss Niko Kovac has criticised the attitude of his players after they slipped to a surprise defeat against Hoffenheim at the weekend. The Bavarians were on cloud nine after hammering Tottenham 7-2 on their own patch in the Champions League on Tuesday night, but they came crashing back down to earth against Hoffenheim.

The visitors pulled off a shock 2-1 win at Allianz-Arena to leave Kovac frustrated by the fact his side could not back up the Spurs win with a crucial three points. The Bayern boss has suggested his players may have let the Champions League win go to their heads and turned up with a bad attitude which ended up costing them badly.

Kovac was unhappy with the sloppy play in midfield and defence that contributed to the defeat, and questioned his side’s mentality. “We did not manage to bring the good game of Tuesday back to the pitch, you can tell a lot, but the truth is in the field, the victory of Hoffenheim was not undeserved,” Kovac said. “The head controls a lot, we should have finished it better, there was no determination.”

Bayern have now dropped points on three occasions in the Bundesliga this season and it looks like being another tight title race. The good news for Bayern is the fact that last season’s title rivals Borussia Dortmund also dropped points following a 2-2 draw with Freiburg.
