Labuschagne Retains Ashes Series Win Hope

Australia batsman Marnus Labuschagne remains hopeful the tourists can claim an Ashes series win after day two of the final Test. Australia have already retained the Ashes as they hold a 2-1 series lead but England can still deny them a series win.

The tourists trail by 78 runs ahead of day three after being bowled out for 225, while England will resume on 9-0 on Saturday. England have the advantage at The Oval but Labuschagne feels Australia can still head back home with a series victory as well as the urn.

He told TMS: “We came here today looking for a really solid batting performance and obviously we didn’t do that but we’re still in the contest.

“The intensity definitely has not dropped. It’s hard to say that when our play on the field maybe reflects that. But we came to win the Ashes and we really want to do that. “We don’t want to just retain the Ashes. We have to come out tomorrow 100% on it and ready to take any chance.”
