The Lagos State Gymnastics Association have honoured the athletes who won medals at the 2020 National Sports Festival which took place in Edo State earlier this year.
Edo 2020 as the name implies was supposed to have held sometimes last year but the sports tournament was postponed until 2021 due to the deadly Coronavirus pandemic.
After several postponements, the festival originally scheduled to hold in March 2020 finally held in April with Delta State retaining the title it has won since 2012.
Team Lagos, however, did very well in gymnastics after winning five medals (1 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze) which came in the singles and doubles events from four male and four female athletes.
The Lagos State Gymnastics Association on Friday, June 11, 2021 thereafter held an award ceremony at the Rowe Park Sports Complex, Yaba to honour the medal-winning athletes.
The athletes were awarded cash gift by the LSGA for their wonderful performances at the festival, Lagos State Gymnastics coaches were also rewarded for their efforts.
Ms. Moyo Ogunseinde, chairperson of Lagos State Gymnastics Association said she was impressed with the performances of the athletes and promised to give them more support.
Ogunseinde also made a promise to reward the athletes with cash incentives while also revealing that the LSGA will support Gymnastics even at the grassroots level.
