Former Nigerian international Dimeji Lawal has praised Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle’s list of invited players for the Unity Cup and international friendlies against Portugal and Poland, respectively.
Recall that on Wednesday, Chelle unveiled two distinct squads for the upcoming Unity Cup tournament and high-profile international friendly matches against Poland and Portugal.
Nigeria will take on Zimbabwe in the semi-final of the Unity Cup at Charlton Athletic’s The Valley on May 26. The winner of the tie will advance to the final to face either Jamaica or India, who meet in the other semi-final.
The Super Eagles boss retained experienced names such as captain Wilfred Ndidi, Francis Uzoho, Bruno Onyemaechi, Moses Simon, Akor Adams, and Terem Moffi for the Unity Cup while also handing opportunities to several fresh faces and home-based players.

Speaking with Completesports.com, Lawal stated that he’s impressed with the invitation of players from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) to the Super Eagles fold.
“I must confess that I am impressed with the list of players invited by Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle for the Unity Cup and friendlies against Poland and Portugal.
“I am particularly impressed with the blend of experience and emerging players in the team. But I’m happier that NPFL players were invited; it will boost their morale.
“As far as I am concerned, the team list is well balanced, and I won’t be surprised that fresh players will be discovered from the Unity Cup that will be of tremendous value to the Super Eagles ahead of future competitive fixtures.”
