RB Leipzig have reportedly been made aware of Arsenal’s interest in centre-back Dayot Upamecano but no official bid has been made. ESPN claim the Gunners want the French defender to shore up their backline, which was again exposed in Wednesday’s Europa League final defeat to Chelsea.

The ex-RB Salzburg star would cost a fortune to bring to the Emirates Stadium as he is under contract with the Bundesliga club for another two years and has a release clause of 100m euros. Even if Arsenal can persuade Leipzig to sell the 20-year-old, it would take a club record transfer fee for a defender to pull off the deal.
Upamecano could be looking to move to the Premier League but the Gunners’ failure to clinch a Champions League berth after losing 4-1 in Baku could hamper their pursuit of the Frenchman. Leipzig have qualified for the Champions League as the third-placed Bundesliga team behind champions Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.
