Head coach of Lobi Stars football club, Solomon Ogbeide has been confirmed dead reports Completesports.com reports.
Ogbeide slumped and died at King Cross hospital in Makurdi on Monday, May 20, 2019 few hours to Lobi Stars home match with Wikki Tourists.
Despite the shocking incident, Lobi Stars went on to beat Wikki Tourists 2-1 to brighten their chances of picking a playoff ticket from group A.
Completesports.com gathered that the veteran coach had complained of general body weakness and dizziness before he was rushed to the hospital where it was reported he died of low blood pressure.
Reacting to the incident which has thrown the Nigerian football fraternity into mourning, the team manager of Lobi Stars, Barnabas Imenger said the death of Ogbeide is a huge loss to the club and Nigerian
football in general.
“We are still in shock. We didn’t expect that we would lose him this time around. It never crossed anybody’s mind that such an incident will happen at this moment. “We didn’t expect this to happen at this
time that we are almost qualifying for the Super 6.
“We were hoping that we would take us back to Africa.”
“He left behind big shoes that will be hard to fill. He is the reason the team was doing very well. He held the players together like his children. He advised them and fasted along with them. “Ogbeide
was highly dedicated to God Almighty and the services of the poor.”
“His philosophy of coaching was wonderful. He was so dedicated that he hardly missed training. “We would miss him sorely. May the Almighty console his family and grant them the fortitude to bear this
irreparable loss” said the former Nigerian international.
With two matches left to play in the NPFL season, Lobi Stars are poised to clinch a super-six ticket from their group. Only Rangers have been guaranteed a place in the super-six playoffs with other teams
jostling to make the final cut.
