Lord’s Capacity (MCC) To Be Boosted as Planning Work Gets Green Light

Lord’s capacity will go up by 2,500 to 31,000 after the MCC was granted planning permission to revamp the Compton and Edrich Stands.

Westminster Council have given the green light for the work, costing in the region of £50million and due to commence on August 24 after the 2019 World Cup and Ashes series.

The new seats are expected to be ready for use in 2020 and the new stands fully opened and operational by the following summer when Lord’s will host the inaugural World Test Championship final.

The MCC believes the expansion of the two non-members areas will help satisfy the massive demand for international and Twenty20 tickets.

The new Compton and Edrich stands will include three tiers and should offer better lines of sight for those sitting on the ground floor, with some currently having an obscured view.
