Newcastle are reportedly chasing CSKA Moscow full-back Mario Fernandes but may have to pay a club-record fee. The Brazilian-born Russia international has been linked with Atletico Madrid but Newcastle are looking to act before their rivals to wrap up a deal.
Fernandes joined CSKA in 2012 from Gremio in his homeland and has been a regular for the Russian outfit in the meantime. Reports claim Rafael Benitez has been monitoring the 28-year-old and is prepared to meet the Armeitsy’s £26.4million asking price. He has been deployed in a right wing-back role this term, which interests Benitez, and would be regarded as an upgrade on Newcastle’s current options.
