Magpies Keeping Tabs On Savarino

Newcastle are set to rival West Ham to the signing of Real Salt Lake winger Jefferson Savarino. The Magpies are due to watch the 22-year-old, who has scored three times so far in this season’s Major League Soccer, when he takes to the field for Venezuela against Brazil in the Copa America on Wednesday.

Savarino is believed to be available for around £6mllion and Newcastle have already shown their willingness to sign players from MLS following the club record arrival of Miguel Almiron from Atlanta United in January. Salomon Rondon could also have an influence on any potential move for Savarino, who he plays alongside at international level, as the forward enjoyed a successful season-long loan at St James’ Park from West Brom last term.

Newcastle are still interested in signing Rondon, who scored 11 goals in 32 Premier League appearances last term, on a permanent basis but the club’s ongoing takeover talks are delaying any deal being concluded. Rondon is believed to be keen on a return to Tyneside and is understood to have a release clause of £16.5million.
