Makinwa Resigns As Abia Warriors Coach, Deutsch In As Replacement

Henry Makinwa has resigned as coach of Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side Abia Warriors, Completesports.com has exclusively gathered.

Makinwa, an ex-Nigeria youth international and former ABS Ilorin gaffer, joined the Abia State fold midway into the current 2018/2019 abridged NPFL.

But tales of woes which have seen Abia Warriors drift into 11th position in the Group B standings with six matches remaining in the fixtures has forced the Spain trained coach to call time on his stay at the club.

Completesports.com scooped that Makinwa turned in his resignation letter after their 1-0 defeat at Delta Force in a matchday-16 fixture Sunday in Asaba.

Makinwa confirmed to Completesports.com that he was distrust with the harvest of woes that has become the bedmate of the club in this season despite his efforts to remedy things.

He was particularly worried that despite good play and dominant showings by his players in every match, goals surprisingly eluded them, forcing the club to lose matches they ought not to have lost.

“I’ve given them my resignation letter but they are yet to accept it,” soft spoken Makinwa told Completesports.com.

“Why I decided to leave? Were you not at the Asaba Stadium on Sunday? We dominated play, should have been up by at least four goals in the first half but the goals refused to come.

“More pathetically painful is the fact that even from inside the six yard box, the goals won’t come.

“It has been like that all season long and we keep training on goal convention daily, but when the chances come, they are tossed away.

“I don’t know, I’m tired so I decided to leave, maybe another coach will come in and things get better,” Makinwa lamented.

Completesports.com learnt that Delta Force of Asaba coach, Emma Deutsch, a Cameroonian, has emerged as the preferred successor to Makinwa at Abia Warriors.

Deutsch, who previously had coaching spell at Abia Warriors where he posted an impressive 10-match unbeaten run, has already completed negotiation to switch to the Umuahia club.

Deutsch turned in his resignation letter to the hierarchy Delta Force on Wednesday and this appears to have been accepted.

“Deutsch’s exit is already a done deal,” an official of the Asaba side told Completesports.com.

In his stead, Mbwas Mangut, has been elevated to take charge of the club in the capacity of head coach.

Emmanuel Deutsch’s first match on his return to Abia Warriors will be a trip to Gombe United in a matchday 17 fixture just as Mbwas Mangut’s first game in charge at Delta Force is a tricky trip to a resurgent FC Ifeanyi Ubah.
