Dutchman Clemens Westerhof has emerged victorious in the defamation of character case filed against his former assistant in the Super Eagles, Johannes Bonfere, reports Completesports.com.
The Rechtbank Gelderland Hight Court, Arnhem on Tuesday found Bonfere guilty of the charge brought against him by Westerhof.
Bonfrere was widely quoted by the Nigerian media of having said in an interview with Lagos-based sports radio station, Brila FM in April, that his former boss sold Nigeria’s 1994 FIFA World Cup Second Round match against Italy.
Bonfrere was also quoted as having accused Westerhof of selling the match for $100,000.

Westerhof prayed the court to compel Bonfere to prove his allegation against him or go to jail and pay a heavy fine as damages for defaming his good name.
Justice Bonnekemp, who presided over the case found Bonfere guilty as charged and asked him to apologise in a paid advert to be published in a Nigerian newspaper.
The judge ruled that his statements on Westerhof were incorrect.
More damages to be paid by Bonfere will be determined by the court.

This guy deserves whatever he got. He should go to jail. Bonfrere never serve Nigeria well. He even denied that he never receive his Olympic Gold medal after all these years. He still poke his noise in our affairs to this day. He must be a very poor old man now. He didn’t seem to save for his raining day now that he is so old. Poor old stupid man.

i still have the thinking that boffere may be right. looking at the outcome of that game. westerhof was so adamant to make the right changes to the game. boffere is a better coach than westerhof in my oppinion. finidis interview on channel tv tell more story about the 1994 worldcup eagles. how change of hotel became the issue betwin players and coach. how westerhof abadoned the team and was begged to return for the italian match. allegations made by boffere is not strange to me and definately after 26 years the evidents will be difficult to provide.
The Court will not go on a voyage of discovering for you.If he knew evidence would diminished after 26 years he should not have said what he said.It is irresponsible to make allegations you cannot substantiate,it is akin to failure to control ones emotion.
