Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthaus has said it would be a mistake if the Bavarians signed Christian Eriksen as he is not good enough. The Tottenham midfielder has just eight months left on his contract and looks sure to be leaving the English Premier League club, with Bayern reported to be among the interested parties.
The Danish ace has earned a reputation as being one of the best midfielders in Europe over the years, but Matthaus believes his performances have dipped of late and he would not be good enough to get into the Bayern side.

Due to his contract situation, Eriksen would not break the bank either, but the former German international still does not believe it would be good business for Bayern. “I’ve been following the player for a long time and so far in 2019 he has disappointed me,” Matthaus said.
“A transfer to FC Bayern wouldn’t make sense in my view, and would be very surprising. “If he’s not enough for Tottenham, he’s not good enough for Bayern. Uli Hoeness has also said before that Bayern doesn’t need any substitutes.”
Instead, Matthaus has said Bayern would be best keeping their powder dry for other targets and should focus on trying to sign Bayer Leverkusen starlet Kai Havertz instead.
Matthaus also prefers current loan star Philippe Coutinho and says Thomas Muller, who is struggling for action at the moment would also be a better option. “I stand by my opinion: Eriksen makes no sense to me,” Matthaus added.
