Mazzu: Osimhen Has Napoli Mentality, Can Become ‘Great Bomber’ In Serie A

Super Eagles and Lille of France goalscoring sensation Victor Osimhen has been urged by his former coach Felice Mazzu to join Italian Serie A side, Napoli, not Liverpool.

Mazu who coached Osimhen at Sporting Charleroi of Belgium, believes the Nigerian is already mature for bigger challenge and compares him with AC Milan star, Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Osimhen who recently won the Lille Player of the Season award is currently a concrete target of Napoli which has sparked great excitement in the Italian city. Champion League kings Liverpool are also interested in signing him

In an interview conducted by Fabio Tarantino for Tuttonapoli.net, Mazzu who is also former Genk coach and now coach of Royale Union Saint-Gilloise also in Belgium says Osimhen has quality to become a big hit it Italy.

Mazzu who helped horn Osimhen’s striking skills after signing him from Wolfsburg where the Nigerian had initially struggled, says the forward would be a ‘great bomber’ if he moves to the Serie A following his exploits at Lille in the French Ligue 1:

You know him (Osimhen) very young?

Mazzu: “I have many fond memories, Victor is a very mature boy for his age, an intelligent person you can trust. When he arrived at Charleroi he was physically back, but he recovered immediately. He showed great availability.”

It seems he can do everything?

“His great talent is explosiveness, he has incredible physical strength. He knows how to play with his head, he always makes the right choice in front of the goal, he can walk all over the field and score. And then he has another great quality: security. He is not afraid of anything.”

He (Osimhen) must have some flaws …?

“At Charleroi he had to learn to think less of himself and more of the team. He often became stubborn with solitary actions, but having followed him to Lille I think he has already improved. Often it also depends on age. More growth and mature.”

Would you (consider him) ready for Napoli?

“For me, he is ready for any big European. And then Napoli’s mentality is identical to his. And I add: he already loves Neapolitan pizza …”

Who would you compare him to?

“He looks like Ibrahimovic because he can do everything with his feet and his head. But there is a big difference between the two: Victor is a simple person. But he will become a great bomber.”

Osimhen has become a great revelation for club and country and has scored 18 goals across all competition for Lille before the break occasioned by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Osimhen the man of the moment. Hope Kelechi is ready to fight for space in the new Super Eagles, not forgetting Cyril and Dennis. Not to mention Ighalo that is considering returning.

Serious headache for Rohr, good for the team.
