Mbappe Awarded Ligue 1 Golden Boot After Season’s Cancellation

France and Paris Saint-Germain teenage sensation Kylian Mbappe has been awarded the Ligue 1 Golden Boot following the cancellation of 2019-20 season due to coronavirus.

According to reports in France, Mbappe was crowned the Ligue 1 top scorer on Thursday by the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP)

Mbappe emerged the league’s top scorer despite being level on goals with Monaco’s Wissam Ben Yedder.

Both strikers scored 18 goals in the French elite division before the season was ended last week.

The 2018 World Cup winner edged out Ben Yedder because he scored more goals from open play, according to French outlet L’Equipe.

Three out of Ben Yedder’s 18 goals came from the spot while none of Mbappe’s 18 were penalties.

Mbappe also had a better goals-per-game ratio, scoring 18 in 20 – the same number in six games less than his rival Ben Yedder.

The 21-year-old’s goals-per-game ratio was 0.9 while Ben Yedder’s was 0.69 after netting 18 in 26 matches.

Mbappe won the Ligue 1 Golden Boot last season after scoring 33 goals in 29 appearances.

PSG were crowned champions last week after Ligue 1 and 2 were cancelled following the French government’s ban on all sport until September.
