Rafael Nadal claims Daniil Medvedev is currently the best player among the younger generation of upcoming tennis stars.
The 33-year-old Spaniard claimed the 19th Grand Slam title of his illustrious career when he defeated Medvedev in a thrilling five-set US Open final last week.
And, while Nadal was delighted to come out on top at Flushing Meadows, the world number two was full of praise for the 23-year-old Russian, who is now up to fourth in the rankings.
There are a host of players now coming through and looking to make the breakthrough in terms of winning a major.
And when asked if he felt Medvedev is leading the way in that group, Nadal said: “At the moment yes. “I do not know what happen in the future.
He is a world No. 4, he had a summer campaign that could not almost be better.
“But there are many younger guys. Who will have the ability to evolve and improve the most will have the chance to fight for the most important things in the next six, seven, eight, nine years. “They need to make an extra step.”
