Meet Super Eagles New Boy, Abraham Ayomide Marcus

Meet Super Eagles New Boy, Abraham Ayomide Marcus

Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr on Friday named his provisional squad for the prestige international friendly against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in Austria on Friday, June 4.

Prominent on the list is Portugal-based Abraham Ayomide Marcus.

The midfielder currently plays for Portuguese Segunda Liga outfit CD Feirense and is rated the best player in the team.

The 21-year-old linked up with CD Feirense from Remo Stars Academy in Nigeria in 2018 and was only promoted to the first team this season.

Marcus is Feirense’s top scorer in the league this season with 11 goals in 24 appearances.

Only three players; Cassiano (16), Mohamed Bouldini (13) and Abdul Aziz Yakubu (12) have scored more goals than him in the Segunda Liga this season.

The talented midfielder was named Liga 2 best Player of the Month in January.

He can play on the left-wing and as a centre-forward.

Rorh m beginning to suspect u,we have a lot of midfielders plying there trade in Europe first division wit great experience u now opt for a 21yr old who entered Europe yesterday for a secunda division.y not allow him play in our under 21.I m beginning to reason the thought of omonija .

Rohr is selling players… What has that 2nd division Portugal guy done to merit call up to Super Eagles…? What a shame…

      • @Jimmyball why are you quick to condemn and into conclusion. Sodiq umar is in which division? Okoye was in what division when rohr capped him? Is it a sin to cap a great talents and let see what happens in the future.

If he fails to cap him today and one nation wins him to them, you will be the first person to nail him. The same way people nailed him for eze when he failed to cap him when he trained with eagles.

Common because you don’t like him does not mean you have to condemn every action and jump into conclusion. To me that’s immaturity.

        • Pls when ever u want to fight ursef on player invitation don’t ever include sadiq umar. Olympic bronze medallist. Highest goal scorer for his team. If he is Cameroonian or Ghanaian he would be the captain already. But in Nigeria he is still be sideline from invitation. Ask siasia. If u have his contact.

    @effiong;
    Please name the other midfielders in Europe Division 1 teams that are outside of the categories listed below;

    1. Midfielders already in the SE list
    (Etebo, Ndidi, Shehu, Aribo, Iwobi)

    2. Those still awaiting go-ahead clearance from FIFA
    (Lookman, Ejaria)

    3. The switch of allegiance still laced with uncertainty
    (Michael Olise)

    4. Finally, the dude who isn’t keen on playing for the Super Eagles at just yet..
    (Eberechi Eze)

Hmmmm! it took Germany 2-3weeks to complete the switch of musiala from England while is taking Nigeria about 2years to complete the switch of Ademola Lookman from the same England?

    Guys wetin dey happen na???

Olise we were told that covid19 stopped him from being invited the last time-out. Is it still the same Covid19 stopping him for the camerounian friendly match?

They told us that they were searching for three countries to play during the international break, now, we only have cameroun on board?

    Wetin dey happen naaa?

Wallahi I dey vex this evening mehn!

Well, well, well! I’ve been following this boy Marcus for a while. He is a fantastic player. Nigerians, get ready for something really nice!

    • Coachie 3 years ago

Oh, really! I just looked him up on youtube and i see more of a wide player than a midfielder in him. He just keeps popping up in and around the box to make himself available for the final pass.

      • pompei 3 years ago

        Nice highlights.
You’re right, Coachie. He is more of a winger. Can play on both wings. But he can also play as an AM, which explains why he was listed as a midfielder. He can use both feet, but his left foot is a WEAPON OF MASS DESTRUCTION. Being so young, he still has a lot to learn. But the talent is there. Rohr will be looking to unleash the lad on unsuspecting opponents. Dem go hear ween.

This new boy is a born baller. He is going to give our inverted right wingers a game.

  • THE FULL LIST OF INVITED PLAYERS FOR JUNE FRIENDLIES ACCORDING TO SOCCERNET

Goalkeepers: Francis Uzoho (APOEL Nicosia, Cyprus); John Noble (Enyimba FC); Maduka Okoye (Sparta Rotterdam, The Netherlands); Ikechukwu Ezenwa (Heartland FC)

Defenders: Kenneth Omeruo (CD Leganes, Spain); Kevin Akpoguma (Hoffenheim, Germany); Chidozie Awaziem (FC Boavista, Portugal); William Ekong (Watford FC, England); Olaoluwa Aina (Fulham FC, England); Jamilu Collins (SC Paderborn 07, Germany); Zaidu Sanusi (FC Porto, Portugal); Tyronne Ebuehi (FC Twente, The Netherlands); Oluwasemilogo Ajayi (West Bromwich Albion, England)

Midfielders: Oghenekaro Etebo (Galatasaray FC, Turkey); Wilfred Ndidi (Leicester City, England); Abdullahi Shehu (Omonia Nicosia, Cyprus); Joseph Ayodele-Aribo (Glasgow Rangers, Scotland); Abraham Marcus (CD Feirense, Portugal)

Forwards: Ahmed Musa (Kano Pillars FC); Alex Iwobi (Everton FC, England); Sadiq Umar (Almeria FC, Spain); Samuel Chukwueze (Villarreal FC, Spain); Victor Osimhen (Napoli FC, Italy); Kelechi Iheanacho (Leicester City, England); Moses Simon (FC Nantes, France); Henry Onyekuru (Galatasaray FC, Turkey); Anayo Iwuala (Enyimba FC); Peter Olayinka (Slavia Praha, Czech Republic); Terem Moffi (FC Lorient, France); Paul Onuachu (KRC Genk, Belgium); Simy Nwankwo (Crotone FC, Italy)

  • I remember writing a piece about Abraham Marcus on this platform and saying he could be the one to give chukwueze a run for that position. He is skilful, fast and scores goals. I hope he clicks with the Super Eagles.
Im guessing everyone’s favourite player(s) are on the list, with the exception of Ejuke, I think every player worthy of an invite is on the list. Lets see what the coach does with the players.

    • pompei 3 years ago

Ejuke’s exclusion is the only source of concern for me. I don’t understand it. But I trust that Rohr knows what he is doing. It is not that Rohr does not recognize talent, or is not able to make bold decisions. Otherwise, he would not have invited guys like Moffi, Marcus, and a few others. Perhaps there are some issues Rohr sees that we are not aware of.
Ejuke’s time will come. He just needs to keep working hard.

  • It looks like rohr has found a quality backup to chukwueze. There are so many of them out there. KUKU FIDELIS is another such player. He plays for boavista in Portugal. But what the eagles need right now are quality central defenders, creative and defensive midfielders. If we can’t get the CMF and DMF, then the coach might just invest his strategy on quality wingers.
Abraham Marcus can play on both right and left wing. He has a lot going for him. The only thing I saw missing in the video clip was crosses, I didn’t see him cross the ball so I dont know if he is a good crosser of the ball. But his ball handling skills looks good. Cant wait to see him play for the Super Eagles.

    • pompei 3 years ago

Oh, I’ve seen him cross the ball in matches. Don’t you worry about that, Sportsfan!
His issue is decision making in front of goal, which can be poor at times. And like any other player, he also makes mistakes and misses chances from time to time.
However, he brings a lot to the table! Apart from the goal scoring ability, he can hold the ball and dictate play, he has good close control, good passing range, he also tracks back to help the defense. I’ve seen him win the ball many times in the midfield. He can do well in the number 10 role. Can also perform on the wings.
Also, unlike our other boys who are at their best only on good pitches, Marcus will perform even on a bad pitch. Some of his games that I saw in the past were on awful pitches, yet he still excelled.
This is a player who can change a game for you. When you’re facing tough defenses, a player like this can come in handy.
Even if he’s not a starter, he’s a great option to have on the bench.

  • Chairmanfemi 3 years ago

We want a MIDFIELDER! A NO.10!Is Marcus a MIDFIELDER or another Attacker? Just add him to the list of Numerous Attackers on ground to make it 14 and just 4 Midfielders. Na wa for Rohr oo. I think we’ll play a 4-1-5 formation against Cameroon

    • JimmyBall 3 years ago

This is what we keep saying… Provide a level playing ground for all. If Marcus could be called up, why not Nwakali if we must be real!

  • Where is Alapasu, if division 4 keeper and second division players are been called up why not Alapasu

  • James Idoko Idoko 3 years ago

… The problem is that we have benchmakrked invitations to top leagues but we keep seeing some players having the bar dropped for them and not for others… how about Kelechi Nwakali? Is the guy Marcus Abraham proven and better tested than Kelechi Nwakali?

  • Nwakali is not better than any of our present midfielders.
SE don’t need him, he can go play for Liberia.

  • Uchenna 3 years ago

Is Kelechi Nwakali no longer a Nigerian? He has been having a great season and would surely offer more than Abraham, our central midfield have no backup

    • Greenturf 3 years ago

Rohr is a professional. If a player makes his list it must be for a good reason.
I reckon the Abraham Marcus lad must have quality otherwise he won’t make the list and playing in the Portuguese Lower tier makes his invitation very special.Because for Rohr to scout a player in that division that player must have special talent.
