Lionel Messi has completed the acquisition of Spanish second-tier side CD Eldense, the club announced on Thursday.
In an official statement, Eldense confirmed that Messi has become majority owner after acquiring 100% of shares held by Colombian investment group Grupo TH Soluciones.
“Club Deportivo Eldense officially announces the acquisition of the club by Leo Messi, marking the start of a new and exciting chapter in the club’s history, which spans more than a hundred years,” the club wrote.
The deal, which is pending final authorization from Spain’s Sports Council (CSD), makes Eldense the second Spanish club owned by the 39-year-old Argentine this year.
Messi already purchased Catalan side UE Cornellà in April 2026, a fourth-tier club based in Barcelona. He also holds an option to acquire a minority stake in Inter Miami when he retires.

According to reports, this is part of a long-term project aimed at boosting the sporting, institutional and social development of the club.
Founded in 1921 by Barcelona supporters — which explains their blue-and-red colors — Eldense is based just inland from Alicante.
The club is currently struggling in Segunda División, sitting 19th with just 1 win in 7 matches and fighting to avoid relegation to the third tier. The club hopes Messi’s arrival will provide a massive lift both on and off the pitch.
The Nuevo Pepico Amat Stadium holds just 5,776 capacity but could soon become one of the most watched grounds in Spain.
Messi, who retired from international football after Argentina’s loss to Spain in the 2026 World Cup final this summer, will play his final Argentina friendly against Benin on October 6 before focusing on his MLS season and new ownership role.
