Mikel Wins Top Award At Stoke City

Former Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel has bagged a top award at English club, Stoke City.

He has been named Stoke City’s top ball winner for the 2020-2021 season and this comes after he became one of the players behind Stoke City equaling their club record for clean sheets in a single season.

After their season, the club had a total of twenty-one clean sheets, and this meant that they leveled the record set by the Stoke City side that won promotion from this division in 1979.

Fifteen of those twenty-one matches had Mikel being involved. The award rewards players with the highest ball recoveries and this involves the player having the ability to win the ball back for his team.

Recall that Iheanacho lost his mother aged 16 after a brief ilness. Few months after the death of Mercy Iheanacho, Kelechi rose to fame and became the youngest footballer in the world after he led Nigeria to the FIFA U17 World Cup in UAE.

In an interview with New Flame, Kelechi Iheanacho stated that his biggest personal regret is not having his mother alive to enjoy the fruit of her labor.

“I’m getting emotional now because… I wish I had my mom here to celebrate with me because she’s one person in my life that, she always stood by me. It breaks my heart when I remember she is no more and she’s not even enjoying all this.”

“Death is unfair. Imagine having the chance to buy her whatever she’d like to have now, take her wherever she’d love to go, yet death took her away. ” He said.
