Milan New Boy Expects Further Improvement

AC Milan summer recruit Ismael Bennacer has been happy with his start at the San Siro but insists he can improve further. Bennacer, who won the Africa Cup of Nations with Algeria and was named player of the tournament this summer, joined the Rossoneri on a five-year contract in a €16million switch from relegated Empoli in August.

The 21-year-old hopes to establish himself in a central playmaker role under Milan boss Marco Giampaolo, and although he has been satisfied with his performances so far he believes there is much more to come. “There’s still a lot of competition as there are other great players in my position,” he told Goal and DAZN when asked if Giampaolo has told him to play in the middle as the main playmaker.

“But personally, that is the position I prefer, although I can also play as a box-to-box midfielder. “It’s the same for me, but personally I prefer being a playmaker. I’ve been playing in this position for less than a year as the first match I played as the playmaker was last season against Juventus. “So I still have a lot to learn and I feel that I have a huge margin for growth in this position. But for now, I’m happy with my development.”
