Mirza plots US Open return

Sania Mirza has revealed she plans to make her comeback at the 2019 US Open following the birth of her first child.

Three-time Grand Slam doubles champion Mirza, who is married to Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik, is currently taking some time away from the sport after recently giving birth to her first child, Izhaan.

Although enjoying time with her son, the 32-year-old Indian has revealed her goal was always to play tennis again and she is hoping to be back in time for the US Open at Flushing Meadows.

“For me, tennis is my priority,” she was quoted as saying by tennisworldusa.org. “End of the year, hopefully at US Open, the plan is to come back.”

Mirza, who is also aiming to represent her country at the 2020 Olympic Games, won the Mixed Doubles at the US Open in 2014 before going on to claim the Doubles title at the same venue 12 months later.
