Morocco Stun Belgium 2-0 To Strengthen Round Of 16 Qualification Hopes

Morocco recorded a shock 2-0 win against Belgium in their Qatar 2022 World Cup Group F encounter.

Second half goals from Andelhamid Sabiri and Zakaria Aboukhlal secured Morocco’s third ever win at the World Cup.

The Atlas Lions went into the game on the back of a goalless draw against Croatia while Belgium pipped Canada in their opener.

Hakim Ziyech thought he had given Morocco the lead in first half added time but his effort was disallowed for offside.

The deadlock was eventually broken on 73 minutes through Sabiri whose freekick close to the corner flag sailed into the net.

And in the 92nd minute Aboukhlal made it 2-0 as he slammed home a cutback.

The North Africans will now take on Canada and will seal round of 16 qualification with just a point.

Morocco made me around as an African . it was even more interesting when checks made after their tactical display showed the their Coach ,Walid , is also from Morocco. Its paradigm worhty of Emulation. The NNF must look in ward and get the SE a Coach with Nigeria blood running in his veins. A good starting point is Sia1 . The NNF must sort out what ever problems he is having with FIFA and then send him on a refresher course .After which he can be handed the SE for long period of time . Some one who played the beat brand of football at came 2nd and 3rd in the Olympics must be a talent coach . lwt s not waste his talent . with him Nigeria can conquer the world if well motivated and supported
Apart fromnSia1 we have other competent Coaches but not tested yet.

Same Siasia who couldn’t qualify Super Eagles for ordinary Afcon 2015 after Stephen Keshi won the 2013 Afcon with the same group of players? Sia1 has no clue about modern football forget about under age football where African teams use to cheat on their age before MRI scan came to the fore.

The recurring theme of this world cup = EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED.
Saudi beat Argentina, Japan beat Germany, then go on to lose to Costa Rica, Morocco just dropped Belgium. BELGIUM! And Canada are leading Croatia, although it’s still early in the game.
With this result, Morocco are looking good to make the next round. They will have a tricky opponent in Canada though in their last group game. What an upset it would be if the 2 favourites Belgium and Croatia fail to qualify and have to catch an early flight out of Qatar!

@Pompei, that is the game of football for you my dear friend. Super Eagles have too much respect for big teams and to eradicate that fear, Nigeria need a local coach that bold enough to give them fresh ideas.

To be honest with you, it will be very difficult for Nigeria to get it right because we have wrong people running the affairs of our sports. We have to do things according to be able to get everything right if we have to be among the best in the world, shikena. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

It is the people running our sports that have the lion share of the blame. I will blame them first, and for me any sacking should start with them, before we start thinking of sacking coaches.

Whether is local or foreign coach, as long as we still have selfish and corrupt people in the NFF things will not work.

This issues must be resolve before our football can be half good again as it was in Rohr era. Because his era to though not 100% good, but it was not not this shameful.

    1. Payment of coaches must be done appropriately, and his back room staff paid as at when due.

    2. Player bonuses and entitlement must be paid as at when due.

Selection of players should be 100% the responsibility of the coach.

Our leagues most be developed to at least the level of North African leagues or South Africa league.

Our ex internationals should stop being noise makers, betting company promoters, etc and get involve like Eto’o and Didier Drogba.

Early preparation for our age teams before tournament should be a priority. We should not always wait before tournament to assemble Un17 Un20, Un23 and CHAN eagles. We can always assemble this teams and organize friendlies for them within the country and within Africa.

Hahaha LMAO Okocha and co encouraging the youths to dream big as Gamblers with any cent that enters their pocket. As for Siasia FIFA saw the writing on the wall and quickly shut him out. Ambitious NFF president who doesn’t want to be on FIFA bad book refused to look into matters for Siaone but vie for exco position. Only God knows what Siasia is going through today despite everything he achieved in his short time as a coach for Nigeria. It doesn’t feel good being a Nigerian when you experience how good people are treated.

Morocco has been successful in football lately, whatever they doing that is working for them is worthy of emulation, currently, they are the back to back CHAN champions, Their 2 clubs, Wydad Casablanca and RS Berkane are the champions of both the CAF Champion’s League and CAF confederations Cup, Their females, ASFAR are also African champions, and their women’s National team almost won the AWC, losing narrowly to SA in the finals, and now their National team are performing well in Qatar, This is their time and they are really enjoying it

Morocco is doing everything right because they don’t have unworthy fans like Omo9ja with his cohorts to content with.

        • Chima E Samuels 1 year ago

Really is it Omo9ja and cohorts that choose coaches or run Nigeria football as P.A to Pinnick or Gusau???
