Morocco’s Victory Over Zambia Keep Ivory Coast’s AFCON 2023 Hope Alive

Ivory Coast will have Morocco to thank after the host narrowly qualified for the knockout stages of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations all thanks to the Atlas Lions’s 1-0 win over Zambia in the last round of group matches.

The Elephant, who qualified as one of the four best losers of the competition, will be thanking mother-luck for granting them another opportunity to still remain at the tournament.

The story won’t have been possible without Morocco’s Hakim Ziyech’s brilliant goal in the 37th minute to the delight of the Ivory Coast supporters, who had storm the stadium to cheer Morocco.

In the other game, DR Congo played out a goalless draw with Tanzania.

The result means, DR Congo join Morocco to zoom into the round of 16 of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

  • For the sake of the competition and the vibe in the country, it’s good news. I saw an Ivorian lady collapse outside the stadium just after the match. A lot of the Ivorians left the stadium before the final whistle. The vandalism was needless. This shows that u support your team through thick and thin. I don’t regret spending money to buy fuel for my car and also renting an apartment to watch the black stars. Still proudly Ghanaian!

Ghana is no more a football nation

    • I followed and supported Ghana in the CHAN tournament last year where they were humiliated. Now again this Afcon. My brother Selfie blamed the coach for Chan failure and then blamed the coach again for Afcon failures. When will the players stand up to be counted?

Their game should be a closed door game to punish those fans.

Unfortunately for Senegal, Coted’ivoire will beat them to end their dream of AFCON title defence.

My opinion as well, Nigeria was the only country that won all their matches at the last AFCON but Tunisia that struggled to qualify eliminated us.

    • Thank God ivory Coast go through the round 16 oo, my Ivorian babe no dey my side again.. But Senegal dey wait them on Tuesday

I somehow see that happening too. That Ivorian team has only been unlucky. They are a very good side. Their defeat is very well misplaced and deceiving. SENEGAL WATCH THIS SPACE.

Ivory Coast cannot beat Senegal,it would have been better for them to be knocked out before now rather than break people’s heart for the third time

Michel, situation changes, and this is a knockout stage, so, anything can happen.

Is going to be very difficult for Senegal!! Ivory coast is like a wounded and disgraced warrior coming back for redemption.

    • @Bobo, I don’t think so. The ivory coast I saw in the group stage is not the ivory coast I know. They were disjointed just like my country. But again football can be funny sometimes. I don’t discount ivory coast completely. Before I left the country yesterday, they had high hopes of another opportunity and redeeming themselves. I doubt it though.
